New Blog

I lost the log in for this site and started a new one at
http://moffitt1.wordpress.com/

It follows the build of a Jim Michalak Mikesboat to use for the Texas 200. See http://texas200.com/ for the "race".

The boat link is http://www.duckworksbbs.com/plans/jim/mikesboat/index.htm
Sail plan has been modified for me by Michalak to a balanced lug plus a mizzen.

Pretty isn't she? I will put a few more shots here, but main page is as above.

Comming home.

After 30 nautical miles we beached just before
Sunset.

Down wind spilling air to keep bows from burying.
7/8 Knots, in the ship channel and no time to reef.
Great fun!!

After a long trip to Shackleford Island with VERY light winds, a bite of lunch, and a nip of the flask, a nap is what is needed!

4 aboard about 625 lbs.

When on a beam reach in light winds, we had to spill winward sail's wind to get lee sail to draw. Looks strange, but worked.

Not the best of resolution, but here Serendipity is pointing into the wind.

Serendipity with 3 aboard. Shows why we had problems getting out to sail through that surf. Once there was a enough wind, we always got out OK.

Roonio with one mast and sail up. Boy, will this look good all rigged. We will post pictures and an article on Duckworks when we return.

Roonio ready to hit the road. We probably have 1 days work left before she can be launched. 4th of July!

Closeup of Gaff Rigging. Plenty of Mast left!

Close up of dumb Sheaves at mast head.

Goose Neck made from gateHinge. IT will be turned Pin down before sailing. Cotter pin will keep Boom from falling down without Sail tension. Cheap...Easy...Ugly!
